People always ask me what my symptoms are and how I knew I was sick. Well, knowing I’m sick is a lot easier than explaining my symptoms, but I’ll give it a try.
To begin with, because of the exposure to the black mold, my immune system was incredibly compromised. Any germ that came my way seemed to turn into a full-blown attack on my body. In the first three months of 2011 I had 3 bouts of pneumonia, multiple counts of mono, the regular flu, and swine flu. Often I’d have several of these at the same time.
In addition to the bugs I always had numerous other symptoms including:
Loss of voice (not the best thing for a person who speaks for a living)
Major fatigue
Very low energy levels
Constant pain in my back and neck
Shooting pains in the rest of my body
Almost constant nausea
Loss of memory
Rapid weight gain and inability to lose weight
Very toxic liver that caused the entire right side of my rib cage to be painful to touch
Problems with vision
Difficulty breathing
Swelling of joints, hands, and feet
Weakness
And others
My traditional doctor tried to treat me for the first several months with very strong medications, but he admitted he had limited access to tests and because I was not improving he suggested I look into alternative medicine. I began seeing a wonderful holistic doctor in North Carolina but we were constantly battling the bugs and not able to get to the deeper issues.
Because North Carolina is always damp (humidity and rain) I was constantly being exposed to mold and was never able to get a handle on the exposure. So after 6 years in NC (5 of those years battling my illness) my family and I moved back to Southern California in July 2011. After extensive lab work and multiple tests I began treatment with a new doctor here in CA. We have put in place a fairly aggressive treatment plan where I receive multiple treatments three times a week; take significant supplements; limit my foods; and exercise and stretch daily. This is a significant investment of both time and resources, but after just the first 12 weeks I began seeing improvement.
Because of the damage done to my body I may never be fully “well” and I’m sure I’ll have to continue some form of treatment for the rest of my life. However, I am looking forward to reaching what for me, will be optimal health.
